Dale McDowell Returns to Action with LOLMDS Weekend

1June 21st, 2014 - Team Dillon Racing pilot Dale McDowell returned to the seat of his #17m Team Dillon Racing/ Warrior/ ECR Racing Engine Super Late Model over the weekend.

Friday evening the 16th Annual Grassy Smith Memorial was contested at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, South Carolina). The $10,000-to-win program, which was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) drew twenty-eight entries to the red clay oval. A sixth place finish in heat race action would position Dale starting eighteenth in the 50 lap finale. With passing being difficult, McDowell advanced to a fifteenth place finish in the final rundown.

On Saturday night the LOLMDS tour invaded Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee) for the first time in since its inception in 2005. Twenty-eight entries registered for battle at the 4/10 mile oval, as team saw a rough start to the night. Contact with the outside wall on the opening lap of his heat race left Dale with right front suspension damage to his #17m. After missing the call for the b-main, McDowell utilized a Fast Time Provisional to gain access to the $10,000-to-win main event. Dale advanced a few spot early on in the 50 lapper before mechanical issues forced him to retire to a 20th place finish.
