McDowell Travels to Portsmouth for Dirt Track World Championship
1October 19th, 2014 - Another crown-jewel event was on the docket over the weekend for Dale McDowell as he traveled to Portsmouth Raceway Park (Portsmouth, Ohio) for the 34th Annual Dirt Track World Championship, which was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS).

With eighty-nine entries taking part in the event Dale earned the eighth starting spot for his heat race on Friday night. He would go on to finish fourth, leaving him one spot short of a transfer position and sending him to a b-main on Saturday.

Steady, light rain moved into the area on Saturday evening as the first of three b-mains was about to begin, forcing officials to postpone the balance of the program to Sunday afternoon.

McDowell raced to a second place finish in his b-main on Sunday, locking him into the 22nd starting spot for the $50,000-to-win finale. Despite starting deep in the pack, Dale progressively worked his way forward to register an eighth place finish in the final rundown.

Ryan Gifford was in action on Friday night as he competed in a $1,500-to-win program at Cleveland Speedway (Cleveland, Tennessee). Twenty-two Limited (CT525) Late Models entered the event, and a fourth place finish in his heat race locked Ryan into the fourteenth starting spot for the feature. He later record a solid top ten performance in the main event, advancing to a ninth place finish at the checkered flag.
