Action Packed Weekend for Shane McDowell Racing

February 26th, 2017 - Back behind the wheel of the Shane McDowell Racing #17m Super Late Model, Dale McDowell headed to Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) on Monday evening for the 46th annual UMP DIRTcar Nationals. With 43 cars signed in, Dale dropped back to a 10th place outing in his heat after experiencing handling issues. Unable to get things resolved for his consolation event, McDowell dropped back to a 9th place outing.

Starting Tuesday off by recording the second fastest time in his group behind Brian Shirley, Dale locked his spot into the $7,000-to-win A-Main with a 2nd place finish in his heat behind Shirley. Coming one position short of a Top 10 finish, Dale held his spot for all 30-laps registering a 11th place finish. (Heath Lawson photo)

With persistent rain in the area cancelling both Wednesday and Thursday night’s event, Dale McDowell returned to Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) on Friday for the two remaining World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series sanctioned shows. Taking the Top 3 out of the heat, Dale edged his way into the feature with 3rd and final transfer spot. Rolling of 13th for the A-Main, McDowell made contact with another competitor on lap 3 sending them both around and to the tail. Trying to battle back from the tail of the field with very limited visibility, Dale logged a 26th place outing in the fog-shortened 23-lap main event.

On Saturday slipping back to a 7th place finish in his heat, McDowell had one final shot at the $10,000-to-win finale with a B-Main appearance. Starting in 6th, Dale charged to a 10-lap consolation win locking his spot into the show. Moving up two spots in the 40-lapper, Dale McDowell registered a 16th place finish.

During the same night Ahnna Parkhurst signed into 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tennessee) for the unsanctioned Frostbuster. Timing in 11th fastest overall, Parkhurst transferred into the B-Main for another shot at the A-Main. Reeling in a 3rd place finish, Ahnna secured her spot into the feature. Looking to break into the Top 10, Parkhurst slipped back to a 14th place outing.

On Sunday Ahnna headed to Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, South Carolina) for the South Eastern Crate Association (SECA) sanctioned contest. Laying down the 9th fastest time in qualifying, Parkhurst earned the 9th-starting spot for the feature. Running into mechanical issues before the feature began, Ahnna failed to make it out for the main event.
