McDowell grabs checkered flag in Non-Qualifiers race at North/South 100
Looking for a better outing this weekend, Dale McDowell and his Shane McDowell Racing crew hit the road to Florence Speedway (Walton, Ky.) on Thursday afternoon for the first night of the North/South 100 with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
With 61 Super Late Models checked in for the three-day event, McDowell kicked off his weekend by setting quicktime in his qualifying group before placing runner-up in his heat race. Starting sixth in the first $6,000-to-win preliminary feature of the weekend, Dale faded outside the Top-10 to finish 11th.
Recording another runner-up finish in his heat on Friday, Dale started fifth in the evening's prelim feature and wound up with a Top-5 outing in fifth.
For Saturday's $75,000-to-win finale, McDowell fell back to fifth in his heat race and missed the transfer spot in his B-Main by just one position. Starting on the pole of the non-qualifiers event, Dale led flag-to-flag to pick up the checkered flag.
