McDowell runner-up in opener at Batesville; ninth in Topless 100
Racing with a heavy heart over the weekend, Dale McDowell rolled into Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Ark.) on Friday afternoon to compete in the annual Topless 100.
With 54 Super Late Models checked in, McDowell topped his qualifying group and led flag-to-flag for the heat race victory. Rolling off from the outside pole in the 30-lap main event, Dale challenged RTJ for the lead several times but ultimately settled for a runner-up finish in the $5,000-to-win opener.
Locked into the $50,000-to-win main event on Saturday, McDowell started the 100-lap main event from the outside pole and faded to finish ninth.
